SmartGrocery Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 19, 2026
SmartGrocery helps users build grocery lists, compare local prices, find nearby stores, and optionally upload receipts to track grocery spending.
Information We Collect
Depending on the features you use, SmartGrocery may collect:
- Account information such as your name, email address, and user identifier.
- Grocery list items, preferences, savings history, and receipt records.
- Receipt photos or selected photo library images when you choose to upload them.
- Current device location when you grant location permission for nearby store features. Nearby store lookup may send coordinates to the SmartGrocery production backend to return nearby grocery stores in real time. The App Store privacy answer remains conservative by declaring Precise Location. If backend lookup is unavailable, the native App Store release falls back to local store data instead of sending location to another third-party lookup service.
- Subscription status and purchase identifiers when Premium subscriptions are enabled through Apple in-app purchases or RevenueCat.
- Basic technical information needed to operate, secure, and improve the service.
How We Use Information
- Provide grocery list, price comparison, store discovery, and receipt features.
- Sync your data across devices when you sign in.
- Maintain subscription access when Premium is enabled.
- Improve reliability, prevent abuse, and support customer requests.
Permissions
SmartGrocery requests permissions only when needed:
- Camera: to scan barcodes or photograph receipts.
- Photos: to let you select receipt images.
- Location: to show nearby grocery stores and compare local prices. Location is requested only while using nearby-store features.
You can change permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information, use IDFA, show an App Tracking Transparency prompt, or use personal information for advertising or cross-app tracking. We may share information with service providers that help operate the app, such as hosting, authentication, storage, map/store discovery, or subscription infrastructure. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services.
Retention And Deletion
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the app and meet legal or operational requirements. Signed-in users can initiate account deletion in the app from Settings > Data > Delete Account. When deletion succeeds, the app also clears user-scoped local app state, cached API data, price cache, route state, and pending sync queue data from the device. You may also request account or data deletion by contacting privacy@smartgrocery.ca.
Children
SmartGrocery is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy when the app changes. The updated policy will include a new Last updated date.
